First Update
Welcome to this Devlog. I decided to give the itch platform a go to document the development of this new game. It's not really a new game, but a revisit of a Scramble remake I've made several years ago in Blitz Max for the PC. There are a few reasons why I decided to make this game:
- It's been several years since I've made a game.
- Blitz Max and Monkey 2 are no longer actively developed so I decided to use Godot as the game engine. First, I made a small Asteroids clone to get the basics down, and now a slightly more complicated game needed to be made. I decided to give Scramble a go.
- Although the first version (also here on Itch) was a fun little project, it only runs on Windows, and the graphics and sound are really simple. I want to make a better effort here.
Moving from a language/framework combination to a game engine with different rules and methods of use is always interesting. But now I've got the hang of it and new stuff is added quite painless, although sometimes I still hit that "what the ..." phase from time to time. But so far, so good.
On the graphics front: I've reached the style and feel that I aimed for so I am in the process of making more. I'm using Aseprite to create all graphics. It's a wonderful tool.
I'll post some more when I hit another milestone: randomly generating the terrain for Area 1.
